Scott County Jail Roster

The Scott County Jail inmate roster in Iowa is a public resource that allows you to find out who is currently in custody. Public information about current and recent inmates can be found on the ScottIACourt.us website. Additionally, data is available through the official website of the Scott County Sheriff's Office, by phone, or during a personal visit to the facility. The roster allows citizens to check the detention status of a specific individual, view charges, and booking date. It is maintained by the Scott County Sheriff's Office and is regularly updated on the institution's website.

Search Current Inmates in Scott Jail

There are several ways to check if a specific person is currently in Scott County Jail.

Online Search

  1. Go to ScottIACourt.us to search for public court records related to county inmates.
  2. Visit the official registry page on the Scott County Sheriff's Office website. The registry is usually displayed as a list that can be browsed or contains a search field by last name. If there is no search field, use the browser's "Find on Page" function (Ctrl+F or Cmd+F).
  3. If the person has been transferred to a state facility, try the Iowa Department of Corrections inmate search.

By Phone

Call the jail at the main number. The operator can confirm if a specific person is being held if you provide the full legal first and last name. The booking number will expedite the process.

In Person

Visit the Scott County Jail lobby during business hours. Information is available through the public service window.

Scott County Jail
400 West 4th StreetDavenport, Iowa 52801Phone: (563) 326-8625

What is needed for the search:

  • Full legal first and last name of the person
  • Booking number (if known)

Records of juvenile offenders do not appear in the public registry. For a more detailed criminal history, you can request a criminal history background check through the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

Find Scott Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created at the time a detained person undergoes the jail registration process. This occurs immediately upon delivery — before the first court hearing.

During booking, the following information is recorded:

  • Unique booking number
  • Date and time of admission
  • Charges presented
  • Arresting agency (Davenport Police, County Sheriff, etc.)
  • Basic identification data of the detainee

Access to these records online is available through the inmate roster on the Scott County Sheriff's website. If the record no longer appears in the registry (for example, the person has been released), you can submit an official public records request. According to Section 22 of the Iowa Code, arrest and booking records are generally open to the public. Some records sealed by court order are exceptions.

To search for a person already in the state correctional system, use the state inmate search tool.

Search the Scott Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The roster supports two main search methods.

Search by Last Name

Enter the last name in Latin letters in the appropriate field. You can add the first name to narrow the results — this is especially useful for common last names like Johnson or Smith. A few tips:

  • Check the spelling. Even one incorrect letter can yield zero results.
  • If the system supports partial search, try entering only the first few letters of the last name.
  • Ensure you are using the legal name, not a nickname or abbreviation.

Search by Booking Number

The booking number is the most accurate way to find a specific record. It is assigned during the detainee's registration. If you know this number from a lawyer, relative, or court documents, enter it in the appropriate field.

If the Search Yields No Results

A lack of results does not always mean the person is not in custody. Here's what to do:

  1. Check the spelling of the name again.
  2. Call the jail at (563) 326-8625 and inquire directly.
  3. If the person may have been transferred to a state facility, check the Iowa Offender Search.
  4. The booking may not be completed yet, and the record will appear later.

Court records related to the case can also be checked through the Iowa Judicial Branch system.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Scott

The Scott County inmate roster is updated throughout the day, but this does not happen instantly. There may be a delay from the actual booking to the record appearing on the site, ranging from a few minutes to several hours, depending on staff workload and time of day.

Main limitations to be aware of:

LimitationExplanation
Delay in Record AppearanceA recently detained person may not yet appear in the roster until the booking process is completed.
Disappearance After ReleaseAfter release from custody, the record is usually removed from the current roster.
Current Detention OnlyThe roster shows those currently in custody. It is not an archive of all past bookings.
Data Entry ErrorsOccasionally, inaccuracies in name spelling occur, complicating the search.

If you need information about past arrests or bookings, submit a request directly to the Scott County Sheriff's Office or contact the Iowa DCI for a criminal history check. Requests can be sent by mail, fax, email, or submitted in person. The roster is a tool for checking current status, not a complete database of the county's criminal records.
